Keycards are a type of Item found in SCP: Secret Laboratory. They are used to access different rooms in Site-02
__TOC__
In Game
Keycards are essential if a player wants access certain parts of the facility, such as the armories, containment chambers, gates, SCP lockers, and other locked doors which require a Keycard to open. Different Keycards will open different doors depending on the Keycard's access tier.<br>

Keycards are items which allow the player to access different parts of the facility. All keycards have a distinct color and can be identified from a distance.
Keycards must be equipped in order to be used. A player can either equip a Keycard via the inventory, or by pressing Left Control, which is the default hotkey button to equip a Keycard.<br>
To use a Keycard, the player needs to be close to a door, and must press E on either the NFC Reader located next to the door, or on the door itself. The keycard reader will show what tiers are required to open/close the door. If a Keycard does not have the required access tier, the keycard reader will flash red upon being interacted with. <br>

Keycards are essential if a player wants to go anywhere in the facility, as checkpoints, gates, containment chambers, and certain doors and lockers require them to enter.
When hovering over a Keycard in the inventory, a small group of squares are shown. These represent the keycard's access tier. Lit squares indicates that the keycard has that access tier, while dark squares mean that it doesn't.<br>

There are currently 12 keycards ingame.
Not including event items, Keycards are the only non firearm item in game that lack a description. The only exception to this rule is the Surface Access Pass.

When hovering over a keycard in the inventory, a small group of squares are shown. These represent what the keycard can or cannot unlock, known as its access tier. Normally lit squares mean the keycard has the access tier, while dark squares mean that it doesn't.
Unique Devices
There are two devices that function similar to Keycards found in game. Those are the Chaos Insurgency Device and Surface Access Pass.

Keycards must be equipped to be used. To equip a keycard, open the inventory by pressing Tab, then select the keycard with Leftclick. Then approach a door that requires a keycard and press E.
The Chaos Insurgency Device has the same exact permissions as a Captain Keycard but has the added function of being able to play Snake by inspecting the device.

It should be noted that while the O5 Keycard is the best keycard in the game, it is not the best idea to go for it as it takes some time to get it. It is often best to stop at Facility Manager Keycard or a Commander Keycard as both of these can open most doors, with the Facility Manager being able to open the Nuke and 106's CC while the Commander card can open the Emergency Power Stations and Armories.
The Surface Access Pass is a unique item that can only be used to open Gate-A and Gate-B but not close them. The item is discarded once used to open a gate.

Unlike Keycards, throwing either devices at a Keycard Reader will not activate it.

Custom Keycards
Custom Keycards can be spawned in using Remote Admin Commands or Plugins. This can be used by servers to create their own Keycards for unique roles or use them for roleplay purposes. They can be created by using the text-based Remote Admin and running the "ckeycard" command.

Trivia
Trivia
*In older versions of the game, hovering over a keycard in your inventory would say what type of keycard it is, and what tier it is. For example, Janitor Keycard would say Containment Tier 1, Scientist Keycard would say Containment Tier 2, Commander Keycard said Security Tier 4. This was removed when the inventory HUD was reworked.
* The O5 Keycard found in game is what SCP-914 thinks a theoretical O5 Keycard would look like.
**Interesting, the Chaos Insurgency Access Device was listed as Administration Tier 3, despite the fact it isn't an official Foundation Keycard. Meanwhile, the Facility Manager keycard was listed as Administration Tier 2. Because of this, there is no Foundation keycard that is Administration Tier 3 ingame.
* Multiple Keycards have gotten renamed throughout the game's development.
**The Research Supervisor Keycard was originally called the Major Scientist Keycard.
**The Private Keycard was originally called the Cadet Keycard, and before that it was called the Senior Guard Keycard.
**The Captain Keycard was originally called the Commander Keycard.
**The Sergeant Keycard was originally called the Lieutenant Keycard.
*Prior to the 11.0.0 update, the Containment Engineer Keycard had access to both the Intercom and the Alpha Warhead Activation Room.
* Scanning the QR codes on the Keycards will give you binary. When translated the message will be "Secure. Contain. Protect."
* There used to be Polish versions of every Keycard in-game. These versions were based off the older appearance of a keycard if they had one.
*While the view model shows the keycard being held vertically, the 3rd person animation shows the Keycard being held horizontally.
**Additionally, the 3rd person animation of holding a Keycard causes the player's left arm to freeze, causing it not to move in conjunction with other animations.
*In older versions of the game, hovering over a Keycard in your inventory would say what type of Keycard it is, and what tier it was. For example, Janitor Keycard would say Containment Tier 1, Scientist Keycard would say Containment Tier 2, Captain Keycard said Security Tier 4. This was removed when the inventory HUD was reworked.

Keycards are a type of Item found in SCP: Secret Laboratory. They are used to access different rooms in Site-02

In Game

Keycards are essential if a player wants access certain parts of the facility, such as the armories, containment chambers, gates, SCP lockers, and other locked doors which require a Keycard to open. Different Keycards will open different doors depending on the Keycard's access tier.

Keycards must be equipped in order to be used. A player can either equip a Keycard via the inventory, or by pressing Left Control, which is the default hotkey button to equip a Keycard.
To use a Keycard, the player needs to be close to a door, and must press E on either the NFC Reader located next to the door, or on the door itself. The keycard reader will show what tiers are required to open/close the door. If a Keycard does not have the required access tier, the keycard reader will flash red upon being interacted with.

When hovering over a Keycard in the inventory, a small group of squares are shown. These represent the keycard's access tier. Lit squares indicates that the keycard has that access tier, while dark squares mean that it doesn't.

Not including event items, Keycards are the only non firearm item in game that lack a description. The only exception to this rule is the Surface Access Pass.

Keycards

There are 11 Keycards found in game.

Unique Devices

Surface Acess Pass
Chaos Insurgency Access Device

There are two devices that function similar to Keycards found in game. Those are the Chaos Insurgency Device and Surface Access Pass.

The Chaos Insurgency Device has the same exact permissions as a Captain Keycard but has the added function of being able to play Snake by inspecting the device.

The Surface Access Pass is a unique item that can only be used to open Gate-A and Gate-B but not close them. The item is discarded once used to open a gate.

Unlike Keycards, throwing either devices at a Keycard Reader will not activate it.

Custom Keycards

A collection of custom Keycards

Custom Keycards can be spawned in using Remote Admin Commands or Plugins. This can be used by servers to create their own Keycards for unique roles or use them for roleplay purposes. They can be created by using the text-based Remote Admin and running the "ckeycard" command.

Keycard Locked Doors/Objects

Certain doors and objects require a Keycard with the correct access tier to open it.

Trivia

  • The O5 Keycard found in game is what SCP-914 thinks a theoretical O5 Keycard would look like.
  • Multiple Keycards have gotten renamed throughout the game's development.
    • The Research Supervisor Keycard was originally called the Major Scientist Keycard.
    • The Private Keycard was originally called the Cadet Keycard, and before that it was called the Senior Guard Keycard.
    • The Captain Keycard was originally called the Commander Keycard.
    • The Sergeant Keycard was originally called the Lieutenant Keycard.
  • Prior to the 11.0.0 update, the Containment Engineer Keycard had access to both the Intercom and the Alpha Warhead Activation Room.
  • Scanning the QR codes on the Keycards will give you binary. When translated the message will be "Secure. Contain. Protect."
  • There used to be Polish versions of every Keycard in-game. These versions were based off the older appearance of a keycard if they had one.
  • While the view model shows the keycard being held vertically, the 3rd person animation shows the Keycard being held horizontally.
    • Additionally, the 3rd person animation of holding a Keycard causes the player's left arm to freeze, causing it not to move in conjunction with other animations.
  • In older versions of the game, hovering over a Keycard in your inventory would say what type of Keycard it is, and what tier it was. For example, Janitor Keycard would say Containment Tier 1, Scientist Keycard would say Containment Tier 2, Captain Keycard said Security Tier 4. This was removed when the inventory HUD was reworked.
    • Interestingly enough, the Chaos Insurgency Access Device was listed as Administration Tier 3, despite the fact it isn't an official Foundation Keycard. Meanwhile, the Facility Manager keycard was listed as Administration Tier 2. Because of this, there was no Foundation keycard that was Administration Tier 3 in-game.
