This article is about the Hume Shield. For pages with similar naming, see the Secondary HP (Disambiguation) page.

Hume Shield is a Mechanic in SCP: Secret Laboratory that acts similar to Artificial HP, but is exclusive to SCPs and has different mechanics.

Description

The anomalous abilities of all SCPs cause them to generate Hume Shield, giving them a form of protection.
While this form of protection can be damaged with simple firearm (or other sources of damage), this only acts as a temporary solution as Hume Shield levels will return to normal levels if left alone. This period of time and how quickly an SCP regenerates their Hume Shield back to their normal levels is not consistent between SCPs. Attempts to bypass Hume Shield has led to the creation of the 3-X Molecular Disruptor, a weapon that is capable of bypassing an SCP's Hume Shield entirely.
It is currently impossible to calculate the Hume Shield levels for some SCPs.

In Game

Hume Shield will absorb 100% of all damage an SCP takes, until it is depleted.
Hume Shield exist to allow SCPs to still be viable late game while also making them not be taken down easily with chip damage. However, the 3-X Molecular Disruptor fires a beam that completely bypasses Hume Shield, which deals damage to normal HP.
SCP-244 also prevents SCPs from regenerating Hume Shield while under its affects

Due to the fact SCPs can only regen Hume Shield if they have not taken damage for a period of time, humans can use this to their advantage by chasing down SCPs and applying pressure on them to stop them from regening Hume Shield.

Currently, not every playable SCP in-game has Hume Shield.

SCP-096

  • SCP-096 has a base Hume Shield of 1000.
  • If SCP-096 takes no damage for 25 seconds, its Hume Shield will regenerate by 40 HS/s.
  • While SCP-096 has Hume Shield, a trial like effect can be seen around their body.

SCP-173

  • SCP-173 has base Hume Shield of 1500.
  • If SCP-173 takes no damage for 10 seconds, its Hume Shield will slowly regenerate by 20 HS/s.
  • SCP-173 restores 100 Hume Shield if they kill a player under the Tantrum Effect.
  • Hume Shield does not factor in SCP-173's damage resistance.

SCP-939

  • SCP-939 has a base Hume Shield of 600.
  • If SCP-939 takes no damage for 7 seconds, its Hume Shield will regenerate at 20 HS/s.

SCP-079

Lore wise speaking, SCP-079 would have Hume Shield, but in-game, this is not the case. Because of this, it is unknown how much Hume Shield SCP-079 generates. There is no official amount according to the Lead Game Designer.

Trivia

  • Hume Shield went through other names such as Aetheric Resistance, Agony and Despair.
  • Hume Shield is loosely based off Hume from the SCP Wiki, a way to measure how easily reality can be bent in a given area. Reality bending SCPs are known to have high levels of Hume.
